CMS Link Letters

A bit of History

In September 2002 we arrived in Tanzania after spending 2 terms at the CMS training college, Crowther Hall, and went to language school in Morogoro. In early 2003 we started work in Mvumi, or at least Peter did as Alison did not get a residents permit in her own right.

Peter taught Microbiology, Health and Safety and First Aid in the laboratory training school at Mvumi Hospital and also looked after the hospital computers. Alison was not allowed to work but she was able to monitor the spending of money sent by the Friends of Mvumi Hospital to ensure it was used as intended.

After 2 years we returned to the UK, a year early, on furlough to enable Alison to change her status from that of dependant to having a residents permit of her own (she was told she could only change status out side of the country). This was successful and we returned again after 5 months having had the chance to visit all of our supporting churches.

During the following 3 years Alison found her work, of IT training, took her more and more into Dodoma and led her, eventually, to running an Internet cafe and teaching in a combined primary and secondary school and living full time in Dodoma.

Peter's work in Mvumi expanded into providing Internet to the hospital and secondary school and he started doing more IT work in Dodoma as well. Eventually he ended up working for Alison in the Internet cafe and came to live full time in Dodoma as well (some months after Alison).

At the end of January 2008 we left Tanzania to go on furlough again, for 6 months, and Alison dropped management of the cafe and is a full time primary and secondary ICT tutor and teach some RE as well.

Peter has now left DCT and is working for Dodoma Christian Medical Centre (DCMC) which is a non-denominational organisation based just out side Dodoma in Ntyuka.
